At around 10:20 a.m., the people in distress climbed up the West Ridge Course from Shiratori Hutte wearing boots, and took the South Ridge Course from the summit of Muroran-dake (室蘭岳). On the way down the summer trail, visibility was poor due to thick fog, and the climber descended by relying on the footprints of other climbers left on the snow, but the footprints became unclear on the way down, and he wandered off from the summit in the direction of the Washibetsu River to the southeast. Muroran City Fire Department mountain rescue team found and rescued him.
