The person in distress entered the Mt. Shakutan trailhead from the 2.5 station at around 10:45 a.m., reached the summit of Mt. Shakutan at around 1:00 p.m. on the same day, and started to descend after lunch. At around 6:45 p.m. on the same day, he sent a text message to his friend saying that he was lost on the way down the mountain and was going to bivouac.
