The person in distress entered the mountain by climbing the Ponshokanbetsu River with a party of four at around 5:30 am, reached the summit at around 3:30 pm, and was descending near the 8th station of the Shokanbetsu route at around 4:05 pm when he was startled by the sound of a bear and slipped about 15 meters off the trail, injuring his head. The person accompanying him called for rescue by dialing 119. A police helicopter rescued the distressed person.
